More than 20 kg of cannabis washed up on the Famagusta beaches

Following a coordinated police operation in the Famagusta’s coastal area of Cyprus, two more packages of cannabis has been seized on Sunday after they washed up at a beach in the northern Cyprus district.

These two additional packages, has put it at a total of over 20 kg of cannabis which has washed up ashore in the government-controlled areas of the Famagusta district in the last ten days.

Police spokesman Christos Andreou said that in the last 10 days, several packages containing cannabis have been found at various beach locations across the district.

Police are currently investigating how these large quantities of cannabis ended up on the beach and are checking the possibility of been thrown by someone in a bid to get rid of them.

The Famagusta District is a district of Cyprus located on the eastern part of the island. It includes the city of Famagusta and the surrounding area. Famagusta is an important city in Cyprus, with a rich history dating back to ancient times. It is known for its beautiful beaches which includes; the Golden Beach, Konnos Bay, Cape Greco National Forest Park,  Blue Lagoon, Protaras Beach and a couple of other less known beaches and its medieval walled city, which has been designated as a World Heritage site by UNESCO. The district is also home to the Salamis ruins, an ancient city founded by the Greeks in the 11th century BC.

Between December 20 and 30 more than 20 kilograms of cannabis washed up, with three kilos of cannabis discovered on Friday alone.
